Honors & Awards:

  • My collection, Star-Nosed Mole, was a finalist (top 20) in the 2008 Green Rose Prize competition of New Issues Press.
  • My chapbook, Ayin, was a finalist (top 20) in the 2005 Concrete Wolf Press competition.
  • Senior Fulbright Lecturer/Researcher to Dominican Republic, Winter 2002.
    My project was translating poetry and fiction by Dominican women.
  • Judge for Literary Arts, Inc. Oregon Literary Fellowships, Portland , OR , Summer 2001. Awarded a total of $8000 in grants to Oregon small presses.
  • Third Place award in Authors in the Park 2000 Short Story Writing Contest for the story, “The Kite Flyer.”   Award included publication in the awards issue of Fine Print, Authors in the Park   (May 2001).
  • First Place Winner, 1999 Abbie M. Copps Poetry Contest, Olivet College, for the poem “Tree Frog Ghazal,” selected by Anne-Marie Oomen.   Award included a cash prize and publication in GarfieldLake Review 1999
  • "Geographies."   Oxalis 20 - Contest Winners (1993): 34.   Special Recognition, 1993 Oxalis Poetry Contest.  
  • Honorable Mention in Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award, 1978, for Mothering.
