Your work often evokes a certain time period using references to popular culture—music, movies, celebrities. How do you choose which icons to include (or do they choose the poem)? How do you manage the right number of to include?

I love that idea of poems as archives. Can you expand on the importance of that as a writer and as a reader?

So can poetry redistribute power in some way? Is the power shared between writer, text and reader?
